What Is The Right Tire Pressure For Your Car?

The Importance of Correct Tire Pressure

Maintaining your vehicle’s recommended tire pressure for your vehicle is essential for safety and cost reasons, especially if you live in an area with changing temperatures like Toronto. The easiest way to do this is by regularly checking and inflating the tires of Nissan cars. Here’s how you can do just that.

The Preferred Tire Pressure

The pressure for tires varies depending on the type of car you have and the type of tire. You should always read your owner’s manual to know your car’s specific pressure. This knowledge is important for safety and performance reasons, which we’ll explore later.

The vehicle’s recommended tire pressure can be found on a label located inside, usually on the door, doorpost, or glove box. The label will have the recommended pressure for the front and rear tires and the spare tire. It is important to follow these recommendations. The same pressure recommendations apply to new tires of the same size.

The tire pressure in Nissan cars should be checked when cold, first thing in the morning or a minimum of three hours after driving. This is because the pressure will change when the tires get hot from driving.

What If You Drive with Pressure That’s Too Low or High?

One of the main reasons tires fail is because people drive on them while underinflated or overinflated. When underinflated, tires wear out more quickly, handle poorly and reduce fuel efficiency. Driving on overinflated tires is also dangerous because they are more susceptible to damage from road irregularities and cause bumpier ride quality. Filling your tires with the proper air is essential to prevent any issues.

Checking the Tire Pressure

It is important to know how to check your tire pressure because it can impact your safety and the condition of your tires. This all starts with a pressure gauge, of which you have three options:

  • A stick pressure gauge has a rod that slides in and out of a sleeve to measure air pressure.
  • A dial pressure gauge is a type of pressure gauge with a numbered dial and a watch-like hand.
  • Digital pressure gauges are pressure gauges that display numbers on a digital screen. They are used to measure the pressure of a gas or liquid.

To use a pressure gauge, you must put it onto the valve stem on the tire. Make sure that it is on there firmly and evenly. If you are using a pen-style pressure gauge, you will need to look at the number that pops out of the rod’s sleeve. For a dial pressure gauge, you read it the same way that you would read a watch. With a digital pressure gauge, you simply look at the number on the screen.

If you don’t have a tire gauge, there are a few things you can do to check if your tires need to be inflated:

  • Press on them with your hand or foot. If they feel soft, they need more air.
  • Check the tires visibly to see if they are flat. If you notice anything drooping, you will need to add more air to them.
  • Adding weight to your car can cause the tires to sag.
